How do I report a property related code violation?

I received a "Notice and Order" letter stating I was in violation of a Town Ordinance, what does that mean?

Within the letter it will state which ordinance(s) are in violation.  The Town will work to remedy the nuisance through two options:

First Option: After the ten day notice period, if the property continues to be in violation, the Town will issue a citation to the property owner and/or current resident.

Second Option: Provided through state law, the property owner has ten days to abate the issue.  If the violation is not corrected within that ten day period, the Town of Burns Flat has the right to abate the issue.  Any costs incurred by the Town in the abatement process will be charged to the property owner, and if not paid within thirty days a lien will be placed on the property for the total amount of the costs.

I just mowed my yard yesterday, why did I receive a "Notice and Order" stating that the weeds are too tall on my property?

From the time an ordinance violation is recorded and the "Notice and Order" is sent to the property owner there is a generally a delay of 2-3 days.  If you have already corrected the issue and the nuisance does not re-occur, you should receive no further contact from the Town and no citation will be issued.  If you have any questions or concerns about the letter please contact us.
